Description

Richard Upjohn Light (1902-1994), B.A., 1924, Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut; M.D., 1928, University of Michigan Medical School, Ann Arbor; Pilot, 1929, U.S. Army Air Corps Flying School with Wings, was a resident in neurosurgery at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital, Boston, Massachusetts (now Brigham and Women's Hospital) from 1929 to 1933, and served under surgeon Harvey Cushing (1969-1939) during Cushing's final five months of service at the Brigham Hospital. From 1937 to 1968, Light was a director of the Upjohn Company, the pharmaceuticals company founded by his grandfather, William E. Upjohn.

Scope and content: Photographic negatives for images taken by Richard U. Light (1902-1994) of senior medical and surgical staff of the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital, Boston, Massachusetts, from 1930 to 1935, during the period of his surgical residency. Individuals photographed include: John Abel; Stuart Bish; Walter Boyd; Henry A. (Henry Asbury) Christian (1876-1951); Harvey Cushing (1869-1939); Elliot Carr Cutler (1888-1947); Louise Eisenhardt (1891-1967); Carrie May Hall (1874-1963); John Homans (1877-1954); George Hoyer; Lee Kendall; Francis Newton; Merrill Clary Sosman (born 1890); William P. Van Wagenen; George Wilkins; and S. Burt (Simeon Burt) Wolbach (1880-1954).
