Abstract

Proximal portion of a right humerus with a comminuted fracture held together with wires and springs, mounted on a black wooded base with a metal rod. Bone is from an unidentified man shot during the Civil War.

Provenance

Preparation was originally collected and mounted by the Army Medical Museum in Washington, D.C. The specimen appears as 152 in the 1863 Army Medical Museum catalogue. It was transferred to Jeffries Wyman between 1863 - 1874 and formerly resided in his museum. At his death in 1874 Wyman left the preparation to the Boston Society for Natural History who then transferred it to the Warren Anatomical Museum.
