Recipients of Harvard University honorary degrees, 1982

Among his many honorary degrees, none meant more to Finland than the honorary Doctor of Science bestowed upon him by his alma mater, Harvard University, in 1982. Also receiving honorary degrees that year were Mother Teresa of Calcutta, and playwright Tennessee Williams.

Although Dr. Finland passed away in 1987, honor continued to be paid to this respected physician, mentor, and friend. In March 2002, on the centennial of his birth, Maxwell Finland’s family of fellows gathered in Boston from all across the country and around the world to celebrate his life, his achievements, and his lasting place in their lives with a day-long scientific symposium and the dedication of the Maxwell Finland Conference Room at the Countway Library of Medicine.
