Description
Sacrobosco’s astronomical work, De sphaera, was produced circa 1220 and describes the shape of the world, the movement of the planets, and eclipses according to the geometry of Ptolemy. The work was first printed at Ferrara in 1472; there were over twenty different editions printed before 1501. This printing, from 1518, contains over a dozen separate commentaries in addition to the text. The Boston Medical Library also holds a copy of one of the incunable editions, printed in Venice in 1499.
