Photograph of Reginald Heber Fitz. Fitz was known for establishing modern surgical treatment for appendicitis. He received his A.B from Harvard College in 1864 and his M.D. from Harvard Medical School in 1868. At Harvard Medical School, he was appointed Instructor in Pathological Anatomy in 1870, Faculty of Medicine in 1873 and professor of Pathological Anatomy in 1878. In 1892 was appointed the Medical School's Hersey Professor of the Theory and Practice of Physic.
