Dr. Pinn recounts her upbringing in segregated Lynchburg, Virginia; her mother’s death; her decision to enter medical school at the University of Virginia, and the racism she experienced there; her career at Harvard, Tufts, and Howard universities, and her work as the inaugural director of the NIH Office of Research on Women’s Health; and her retirement.
