This preparation was originally part of John Collins Warren's personal study collection and was part of his original donation to the Massachusetts Medical College in 1847 that formed the Warren Anatomical Museum. In January 1876 Oliver Wendell Holmes stated that this subject was injected in Philadelphia and sent to Dr. Usher Parsons of Providence, R. I. Holmes further stated that he made and painted the preparation. Usher Parsons married Oliver Wendell Holmes' sister.
