Provenance

This beauchene skull, likely from a male, was prepared and sold by anatomy dealer Pierre Nicolas Vasseur (1814-1885) of Paris in the mid 19th-century. The label inscription only naming Vasseur indicates that this display was most created in the 1850s-1860s before initial partnership with Pierre Jean Martin Gustave Trammond (1845-1905) was documented.

Many affluent American physicians would travel to Paris to receive elite medical training. The original purchaser of this Beauchene skull is unknown, but it was a popular contemporary educational model.
