Abstract

Dried section of maxillary frontal sinuses; copper wires articulate the tissue; mounted in open frame with a brass eye hanger nailed to frame. Also shows lachrymal passage and eustachian tube; openings indicated by wires of different colors. Color coded descriptive key adhered to frame interior.

Provenance

This sinus preparation, from an unknown dissection subject, was dissected out, injected and dried by Richard Hodges in the mid 19th century. Hodges gifted the preparation to Oliver Wendell Holmes, and Holmes later donated the display to the Warren Anatomical Museum in 1874.
