Description

In the early 1970s, Folkman laboratory member Dr. Michael Gimbrone, experimented with placing tumors in the cornea of rabbits and monitored tumor growth. Gimbrone would then transplant a small amount of the tumor into the iris of a different rabbit to find out how the tumor responded in a more vascularized setting. In his August 1971 journal entry, Folkman wrote that Gimbrone's experiment "shows that a rapidly growing tumor can be slowed markedly by "diffusion-limited" growth."
