Cases treated according to homeopathic principles

Samuel Gregg removed from Medford in 1840 and resumed his practice in Boston, proceeding to train homeopaths in his office. He was not, however, the first homeopath in the city. That distinction goes to Dr. Josiah Foster Flagg (1789-1853) who entered into correspondence with homeopathic colleagues in New York and Philadelphia and began to consider the viability of the new system in 1838.

Dr. Josiah Foster Flagg became convinced of the efficacy of homeopathy after obtaining relief from chronic dyspepsia. This case book, listing patients treated and medicines prescribed, covers the 1839 to 1841 period and here, in Flagg's first case, he records treatment for his wife's constipation, following advice from homeopaths Federal Vanderburgh and Gideon Humphrey.
