Post-mortem Continued

Roughly 150 years after Jonathan Mason Warren’s post mortem exam, and nearly 200 years after the initial injury and trial, the Lowell hip, now mounted on a stand, was brought to the attention of Dr. Jim Herndon of Massachusetts General Hospital while he was doing research at the Warren Anatomical Museum. An orthopedic surgeon interested in the history of his field, Herndon took the hip in for x-rays to see if he could close this case once and for all. His thoughts, findings, and analyses can be found in his upcoming article which is to be published this coming September in the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery.
