Anne Pappenheimer Forbes
In 1939, Dr. Anne P. Forbes accepted a fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital in Dr. Fuller Albright’s endocrinology lab, eventually she became his permanent associate collaborating with him for over ten years. In a 1962 issue of the journal Metabolism honoring Dr. Albright she wrote this, “The contributors to this volume who were privileged to work with Fuller Albright are well aware that they were present when many of the important concepts of modern medicine were being born.”
Dr. Forbes wrote this letter to Dr. Joseph Garland, editor of the Harvard Medical Alumni Bulletin. The article Dr. Forbes referred to was published in the March/April 1970 issue of the magazine and can be found below. It was one of many pieces that Dr. Forbes wrote in Dr. Albright's honor.
Dr. Fuller Albright died on December 8, 1969. In this article, written shortly after his death by Dr. Forbes, she writes about his life, his achievements, and what it was like to work with him. She wrote, “It made no difference to anyone whose syndrome it turned out to be. With a strong sense of team, everyone contributed to the work and let the credit fall where it might.”
