Myrtelle M. Canavan
Myrtelle M. Canavan was a pathologist at Boston State Hospital, and taught at several medical schools. She served as curator of the Warren Anatomical Museum, Harvard Medical School, from 1924 to 1945.
When asked if she would like to be part of the Pathology Department at the Woman’s Medical College of Pennsylvania, Dr. Canavan, herself a graduate, replied, “You know I am not very keen on segregated education for women but I certainly appreciate your wanting me.” It is interesting to note that despite her misgivings and the three other jobs she had at the time, Dr. Canavan was still willing to work something out with the college.
